aries-winter-2016

Aries | 6 of Cups

This season will be all about reconnecting with your inner child and learning from your childhood. Honor what once was. Your sense of nostalgia may be heightened this Winter. Do you see how different events and experiences in your life have all been connected thus nurturing you into the person you are today – for better or for worse. Is there any childhood healing that needs to take place? Look back at your younger years. See how you have grown and matured. What is different and what has stayed the same?

taurus-winter-2016

Taurus | 2 of Wands

The longer you wait to make a decision, the less choice you have Taurus. This Winter will be spent in contemplation and looking for new options to explore. Do both options bring you to the same end point or do their paths cross for a moment and then keep on going? Evaluate your motivations. Balance will be an important factor this season as well. How will your choices impact the sense of balance in all areas of your life?

gemini-winter-2016

Gemini | Mother of Cups

Spend your Winter reaching out to others, healing, and sharing the love! This season is all about being the best nurturer you can be – to yourself and others too. You may be feeling a bit lovey-dovey, extra feminine, and all squishy on the inside which may make you a bit uncomfortable Gemini, but it is totally okay! Share all of that extra love and joy you feel within you to others that could use some.

cancer-winter-2016

Cancer | The Emperor

Discipline, discipline, discipline is the name of the game for you this Winter, Cancer. Bring in the reigns – it’s time to tighten up ship! This is a period of taking care of business to build a strong foundation for yourself, which I feel will come in handy as we roll into 2017. Create a to-do list and crack down on some of those responsibilities. This will be an important period of development and independence for you.

leo-winter-2016

Leo | Daughter of Swords

This Winter will really be about expanding on new ideas, Leo! Get clear on your goals – don’t be afraid if you have to put some of them on the back burner for now. This season will be spent learning what works for you. Communicating in new ways and learning new things. Have you been thinking of taking up a new course of study or enrolling in a new class? Now may be the prime time for you to do so!

virgo-winter-2016

Virgo | Death

Transformation, change, and rebirth will be a HUGE theme for you this Winter, Virgo! Embrace it. Shed your old skin. Let go of old beliefs. Release that which no longer serves you. You may find yourself changing jobs, finding friends who resonate with you on a soul level (and leaving behind those who do not), or perhaps even leaving a toxic relationship. Know that this period, while not easy, will definitely be beneficial in the growth and development of who you are as a soul! This is a powerful time for you.

libra-winter-2016

Libra | 5 of Cups

Try not to wallow in grief, despair, or loss this season. Winter will ask you to bring out your inner strength to help you heal from your grief. This is the time to focus on what you have – not what you’re lacking. Do not hang your head in shame! Try to find ways to renew your confidence. You can bring a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink. Only YOU can renew your sense of joy and passion for life! How do you tap into that energy?  *Tip – Take extra salt baths this month to help keep your energy clear and fresh as you go through this trying time.

scorpio-winter-2016

Scorpio | Son of Swords

Winter will bring to you increased communication. Be mindful to think before you speak – especially in the first few weeks of Winter while Mercury is going retrograde (December 19th 2016 – January 8th 2017). Pay attention to how you communicate with others. What do you say and what do you wish you would say? There will be lots of ideas for you to share with the world. Deepen your knowledge of an existing subject of interest. This season will be a time of enhanced focus for you analytically and intellectually.

sagittarius-winter-2016

Sagittarius | 8 of Pentacles

Work, work, work is the name of the game for you this Winter, driven Sagittarius. Build and stack your resources. Put in as much work and effort as possible. Now is the time to really hunker down and put your nose to the grindstone with any goals you have. This is an extremely productive period for you where you can get a lot accomplished. This also feels like a great time of building your sense of abundance and prosperity by working towards your aspirations.

capricorn-winter-2016

Capricorn | 5 of Pentacles

Work on clearing up poverty mindset this Winter, Capricorn. Know that you’re not alone and that you truly have all you need to survive. Work on taking better care of your physical body this season. Drink more water. Eat healthier foods. Make sure you spend enough time out in the sun – even if it’s a bit chilly outside. Gather with those who love and support you. Don’t isolate yourself this Winter. Rejoice in the sunshine with your friends and be grateful for the many blessings in your life, even if it is hard to see them right now.

aquarius-winter-2016

Aquarius | 4 of Cups

You may feel a little bored, apathetic,  or impatient this season, as it may seem you’ve hit a bit of a plateau. Be mindful to keep your ego or sense of entitlement in control this Winter.  What has left you so unsatisfied? What can you do to revamp your spark Aquarius? Don’t isolate yourself in the darkness of your room. Open the blinds and let the sunshine in!  Don’t bask in lower vibrational ways of thinking. Keep your eyes to the light as you face the darkness.

pisces-winter-2016

Pisces | 3 of Swords

What has broken your heart my dear sweet Pisces? What didn’t work out the way you planned? As an idealist, this may have shaken you to your core emotionally. Constantly thinking of this issue, it’s got you bound tightly in it’s grip, replaying the incident over and over. Are you communicating your displeasure? How can you express these feelings in a healthy way that is more geared toward healing? Focus on regaining your sense of safety and security this Winter. Don’t be afraid if it is time to cut some cords – in the end, it may bring more clarity to the situation.

Squirrel as a Spirit Animal | Animal Totems

Squirrel has been ever present as of late, making chucking noises and happily bounding across the yard. As I sit at the window watching them intently searching for acorns, my thoughts turn to what this cheerful little creature has to share with us. Here is what it may mean if you feel called to discover Squirrel as a Spirit Animal.

Preparation
Winter is coming – and the Squirrel intuitively knows it. Months ahead, they begin planning and making their preparations for shelter and food stores for the long winter ahead. Squirrel teaches us to always be prepared. To think ahead. To gather your resources. What do you have now, what tools do you have at your disposal, that you can save for a rainy day? Maybe now is the time to save more money or invest in your education. What is an old skill that you can repurpose and use in a new way? You never know how what you already have in your repertoire will come in handy!

Expect the Unexpected

Squirrel is always on the look out for predators – he has to be. He also has to be crafty and cunning in how he avoids these dangers. Squirrel invites you to make a plan B so that you’re not blindsided by the unexpected. Squirrel knows it is better to climb to the tree tops for safety. This way he can get a bird’s eye view of the situation and maneuver accordingly.

Be Resourceful – and a little fiesty

Friendly and not afraid to let you know how they feel, squirrels are some of the most resourceful creatures out there! Squirrel may be telling you it’s time to survey your resources. What do you have? What can you share with others? Having a Squirrel animal totem also encourages you to be curious and to make new friends! Chat it up. This creature also reminds us that sometimes it’s okay to be bit nutty. It’s okay to be passionate and to express your pleasure or lack thereof.

Remember to help the planet 🌎💚

Squirrel isn’t afraid to do a little digging! With such a short attention span, squirrels forget where they buried their nuts within seconds. This actually turns out to be a good thing as although forgotten, these acorns have been given a chance to germinate, grow, and sprout new life. Squirrel encourages you to recycle, plant a tree or garden, donate your money or time to worth environmental causes. Squirrel also reminds us to live in an environmentally friendly and ethical way. When his acorns mature into trees, his energetic footprint provides oxygen for generations – long after Squirrel is gone. What kind of footprint do you leave on Mother Earth?

Squirrel is a small creature that may often be overlooked but his message packs a powerful punch. Don’t you think?

Making the Most of Mercury Retrograde

Don’t Fear the Retrograde! Mercury Retrograde often gets a bad rap. However, these times of reflection and evaluation are important for our growth and development. This is a time all about reconnecting with you! Mercury Retrograde can often bring up many lessons for us. Some of them, we think we have already learned. But Mercury comes in to say, “No, no my dear. That was just one layer of the onion.” And as we all know, when working with onions, you get a few tears. We may find ourselves in old patterns or circumstances. We may have a ghost from our past pop-in to say hello, or we may have similar situations from the past come in to see if we have really learned our lesson by how we deal with the situation.

What is Mercury Retrograde? Mercury is the planet that governs communication, travel, and technology. Mercury is considered to be retrograde when the planet appears to travel backward in the sky (it doesn’t really). This is why during mercury retrograde communication gets jumbled, people are more likely to get into disagreements, and technology is more prone to malfunction. Mercury goes Retro several times a year (about 3 or 4) for about three and a half weeks – not including the shadow period. You can check the Farmer’s Almanac for specific dates.

How Can Mercury Retrograde Impact You?

  • Muddled Thinking
  • Technological Issues
  • Issues with Communication
  • You/Others More on Edge
  • Problems with Travel/Transportation
  • Negotiation & Contract Miscommunications

Here are some things you can do to make your Mercury Retro experience more pleasant…

Double Check Your Work & Pay Attention to Detail

This is so important during Mercury Retrograde as things have more of a tendency to be miscommunicated at this time. It is easier to skip steps or to miss little details. Double check your numbers, the way you word emails, your spelling, how you balanced your check book, read the fine print, confirm when appointments are scheduled, etc. Pay attention to details. Listen carefully to instructions. Do more research. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you’re unsure! Go over things with a fine toothed comb. Take a step back – especially if you feel particularly frustrated. Then come back and take a look at it with fresh eyes.

Slow Down

This plays into re-checking your work and paying attention to detail. When we rush, we often miss things or make simple mistakes. Try not to procrastinate. Focus on deep breathing to release anxiety. There’s nothing wrong with taking your time! Will a few extra minutes make or break you? Probably not.

Drink Plenty of Water

Because of the shift in energy that takes place during Mercury Retrograde, I have found it beneficial to drink more water during these periods. It really helps to keep your energy clear, fresh, and more energized – especially as you are re-working, re-evaluating, and re-thinking many of your goals and ideas.

Back Up Your Cell Phone & Computer

This is a biggie! Technological malfunctions and mishaps tend to occur quite frequently when Mercury goes Retrograde. Back up all of those pictures, important documents, music, and videos! Try to do this before Mercury goes Retro.

Step Up Your Protection & Spiritual Clearing

As a sensitive, intuitive, or empath, you may find it difficult to deal with the sometimes crazy and intense energy of Mercury Retrograde. Use a form of spiritual protection that works for you! Ground and shield yourself regularly. Work with your angels and guides. Take salt baths, burn sage, or work with crystals and essential oils for protection and energetic cleansing.

Watch How You’re Communicating with Others

During Mercury Retrograde, it is easier for us to misinterpret the words or actions of another. We may know how we are feeling, but when we try to tell someone else it comes out backwards, rude, or just totally wrong. Think before you speak! It may sound good in your head, but what about coming out of your mouth? Be mindful of the words you use with others – especially as some people may be more argumentative at this time. Are you communicating your feelings effectively? Don’t feed into drama! Would someone find your word choice, tone, or inflection condescending when you’re really just coming from a place of love? Is it better for the conversation to take place in person instead of via email? The way things come across in an email can be very different than if you were face to face or on the phone with them.

Reflect More Than You Manifest

As Mercury Retrograde is a time of “re-doing”, it only feels right to be more of a time about reflecting than manifesting. A time of connecting with yourself. A time of redefining what works best for you. If you are dead set on doing some sort of manifesting work while Mercury is in Retro, try to re-work a manifestation that didn’t work or turn out as planned. What could you have done differently? What would you add or take away? Were you not specific enough, were you too specific, or did the intention change all together?

Tie-Up Loose Ends

Now is the time to finish that project! Complete any tasks that have been lying around half done for the last few weeks or months. Get things finished up so you can move on to the next chapter when Mercury stations direct.

❤ Sending you loads of love this Mercury Retro!

8 Tarot Cards for Samhain, The Magick of All Hallows Eve

As Samhain draws ever near, I think more of the blessings it brings to us – the wisdom, the challenges, the mystery. The thinner the veil gets, the ever more present and stronger these vibrations become. I can definitely feel the chill of spirit all around me – don’t you?!

Let’s talk about the energy of Samhain and all of her majesty!

If you’re interested in learning about my views on ouija boards, dream visitations, spiritual protection, transformation, change, new moon intention setting, and more, watch my Samhain/Halloween + New Moon in Scorpio Tarot + Oracle Readings YouTube Video where I shuffle some of my favorite spooky decks and see what my cards and guides have to say to us this Halloween + New Moon. It was definitely a ton of fun!  Just click the link to view. Also be sure to read the blog post Honoring your Ancestors Beyond just Samhain for some great tips on connecting with your loved ones in spirit on Samhain or any day of the year!

Here are some of my favorite Tarot cards to help us connect with the magical vibes of All Hallows Eve.

tarot-cards-for-samhain-pic-1

The High Priestess + The Magician

Secrets. Mystery. Heightened intuition. Increased psychic ability. This is what the High Priestess brings to us on Samhain! The veil is between the worlds is thin, which is great for divination and tapping in to the unknown. Listen to and trust your intuition at this time as you will be more in tune with the energy of things around you. The Magician says spell work or any other witchy woo thing you do will be extremely powerful at this time, especially with your intuition a flame from the energy and esoteric wisdom the High Priestess brings to us. Manifestation abilities are at one of the highest points they will be at all year, especially since the New Moon on October 30th (2016) gives us an extra boost of manifesting power! What is your intention? What do you wish to create? Where is your will daring you to go? The Magician says ‘Do it! Make it yours!’

tarot-cards-for-samhain-pic-2

Death + Six of Ghosts

Transformation. Rebirth. Change. Spirit Communication. Childhood Memories. As Samhain falls under the sign of Scorpio, we are getting a double dose of the need for transformation, evolution, and change. Why do you have to put on a costume to feel safe enough to allow hidden parts of yourself to shine through? Take off your mask! An air of rebirth is all around. Allow old skin to shed away. With change comes growth! Death and the Six of Ghosts remind us to connect with our loved ones in Spirit. Can’t you feel their presence around you more clearly now? As the veil gets thinner, it becomes easier for us to communicate with and sense the presence of those on the other side. Honor them during this season. Reminisce on what you did together when they were alive and the type of person they were. Commune with the dead. Perhaps visit their final resting place and leave flowers on their headstone. Send them your love as you light a candle for their soul. All Hallows Eve is a time of remembrance of our loved ones who have passed on. It is also a time of nostalgia whether that be through memories of time shared with those who have died or through letting our inner child come out to play for a night.

tarot-cards-for-samhain-pic-3

The Hanged Man + The Hierophant

Pause. Let go. Surrender your fear. The Hanged Man asks for trust and faith. He asks for patience and for a change of perspective. Combined with The Hierophant, we are asked at this time of year to dig deep and search for our spiritual truths. What do you hold most sacred? What does your ancient soul tell you? Let go of conformity. Move on from fear. Surrender to Spirit in full trust. Feel the magick of your soul and its immortal truth. What wisdom does it have to share? Evaluate your beliefs and if some of them start to unravel, let them fall away.

tarot-cards-for-samhain-pic-4

Three of Ghosts + Judgment

Reflection. Togetherness. Facing the darkness of your soul. Samhain is a great time for celebration – get festive! Decorate with gourds, drink some tart apple cider, and bake that pumpkin pie! It is also the perfect time of year for shadow work and the rediscovery your power. By reflecting on past errors, celebrating past wins, and learning lessons from each, you can begin to take back your power as you face the shadow within. By facing our fears and the uncharted darker parts of ourselves, we make way for a deeper connection with and integration of our soul. We learn to rise again in the face of adversity. Just as if you were trying to make your way through a pretty terrifying haunted house, the only way out is to keep moving forward! It is also a time to commune with your ancestors and loved ones in the living and in spirit. The energy is perfect for a ‘mini life review’ with your spirit guides!

Owl as a Spirit Animal | Animal Totems

Owls and their haunting call bring forth so much symbolism from the depths of the subconscious. Have you been hearing their whisper in the forest? If this magical bird has perched itself in your awareness, it has a special lesson just for you! What is Owl encouraging you to do? More importantly, whoooo is Owl calling you to be?

This photo, “Do I need a haircut” is copyright (c) 2015 Mike Norkum and made available under a CC BY-ND 4.0 license.

Link: Photo used with permission of CC BY-ND 4.0

Wisdom

Knowledge. The Keeper of Secrets. Magick. Study. Owl is classically associated with wisdom and learning. To gain wisdom, challenges are often called forth to be a teacher to us, so that particular lessons and skills can be learned. Owl asks you to reflect on past lessons. What wisdom did you gain from the situation? What lessons are your discovering right now? Owl also comes to recognize you for your continued growth and the lessons you have mastered. This majestic bird also invites you to bring more of a sense of magick, awe, wonder, and mystery into your life. Connect with the spirit of Owl for an extra boost when doing ritual or spellwork.

Clairaudience + Clairvoyance

Keen sense of hearing and vision, an awakening of these psychic senses. Owls have 3 eyelids and this fact can only make me think of one thing – the Third Eye or pineal gland. This is the center for your psychic sense of clairvoyance. Owls also have an acute sense of hearing which combined with great depth perception helps them tremendously in their hunting. Pay special attention to the messages you receive clairaudiently. The Owl calls upon you to work with and strengthen your psychic senses.

img_6136-1

Perspective – The Owl Head Turn

Foresight, seeing the big picture, seeing the situation from the perspective of another. Extend your range of vision! Owls can rotate there heads to a max of 270 degrees without doing any damage! Does a situation have your feathers a bit ruffled? Owl says there is no harm at looking at things from a different point of view! This may also help you to understand someone else in a new way – especially someone you may not be getting along with. A new angle can bring refreshing insight, opportunity, and information as to what may be coming your way! Use this along with your intuition and clairvoyance to help you in decision making as well.

Honoring your Ancestors Beyond just Samhain

A relationship with your Ancestors goes beyond just honoring them on Samhain (Halloween). Our Ancestors are an integral part of who we are whether we are consciously aware of it or not. You can deepen your relationship with them by connecting with their spiritual energy as often as you’d like – not just once a year on October 31st!

Honor them everyday. Honor them for their strengths, trials, and tribulations. Remember that they were people too. They lived. They are not so different from us. Even though technological and geographical changes may be apparent, the human soul is still the same, no matter the passage of time.

Your Ancestors want you to win! They want you to succeed and for your soul to grow. Give them thanks for the blessings they send your way and the lessons that come to us through challenges. Ask them for strength and courage. To share their wisdom and guidance with you.

Here are some ideas to help you honor and deepen your connection to your Ancestors, no matter what time of year…

• Drawing a family tree is a great way to connect with your family and to teach younger generations (as well as yourself), about your family history. Genealogy or Ancestry websites are also great places to start. Connect with your heritage by slowly learning about the country, culture, and it’s people.

• Try learning their divination practice, like Runes, Kipper, I Ching, bone sets, cowrie shell divination, and scrying just to name a few! Ask them for help and to guide you in your learning. This may even be a great way of communicating with them (perhaps even their preferred method) and is a great way to strengthen bonds.

• Take a trip to reconnect with your heritage – Norway, Tibet, France, Russia, Africa, Jamaica, England, Brazil, Mexico. What feelings do you get when you go there? Try the cultural foods. Step out of your comfort zone a bit. How does the air feel, the scenery look? How is the vibration of this place different from where you currently reside – how does your soul feel here? While there, try to visit places of historical importance like churches, battlegrounds, sacred sites, etc. Embrace and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of your Ancestors.

• If you can’t physically go there, try doing so in meditation! Take a step back in time. Ask them to show you their lives or their favorite places. Crystals and stones such as petrified wood, garnet, picture jasper, black kyanite, nuumite, and rose quartz are also great to work with when connecting to your ancestry (and past lives as well).

• Always give them thanks – especially when connecting to the Spirit world whether that be through divination methods or other means like mediumship. You may feel their presence more closely and hear them more clearly during the month of October as the veil begins to thin even further! Of course the most significant day for this is Samhain.

Here are some ways to show thanks, gratitude, and appreciation to your loved ones in Spirit…

• Rose oil, incense, flowers, tobacco, alcohol – what did they love? Did your grandfather smoke cigars? Buy his favorite and burn it as an offering to him. Did your distant aunt love chrysanthemums? Plant some in remembrance of her. Did your mother love rose oil? Wear some when you want to connect with her more deeply. Did your great great grandmother have a special cookie recipe? Make them in honor of her.

• Use the special baby blanket or delicately dainty table cloth that was made for you. Pull out the old family photo album. Make tea with the intricately decorated tea set that belonged to your grandmother’s, grandmother’s, grandmother and has been collecting dust in the china cabinet for years. You can even make a special meal and leave a place at the table for them during celebrations. Perhaps their birthday or an anniversary? What does your intuition tell you to use? Connect with your Ancestors in meditation! Listen to what they tell you.

Remember that your Ancestors go back generations and generations! Not just your great great grandparents, but someone who you may not even know the name of or anything about. Someone who may have been forgotten with time. Even though you may not know what they looked like, did for a living, or who they are in relation to you, they are still a part of your ancestry and are there guiding you throughout your life whether that be in a large or small capacity. Maybe even for one particular situation that you have in common, even if it is only for a few minutes, weeks, or years of of your life. Honor and give respect to them on your altar whether on Samhain, Yule, or any day of your choosing. Light a candle, say a small prayer. Any acknowledgement is enough. ❤

Appreciation for the Journey on the Road to Awakening | Maven Mindset

Looking back at your journey thus far, I’m sure you’ve learned a lot along the way. You may wish you were better prepared before you embarked on this expedition of self-discovery, but you wouldn’t trade your unique experience for anything.

Here are some things I’ve learned thus far in my own journey, as well as what I have come to appreciate about the journey of soul and self-discovery, the road of awakening, and the journey of being your most authentic self…

You’re learning what is of heartfelt importance to you. You’re better at bringing your focus back to the present. To look back and see how far you’ve come. Don’t sweat the small stuff! Let it go. In the grand scheme go things, is it really that big of a deal? Don’t stress about all that you have left to do, dream about, and accomplish. You know it will happen when it’s meant to, so there is no need to attach to outcomes.

You have an appreciation for the process of letting go. You’ve gotten better at releasing! YES! Although it is never easy, the more you do it, the better you become at surrendering. You realize that releasing is vital to the health of not only your immortal soul, but also your human body. You can recognize a good release by the way you stand taller, your shoulders relax, your neck muscles aren’t as tight. Everything about your energy is just lighter!

You understand the value of slow steady growth. Is a weed that sprouts up over night stronger than a great oak? You take time to stop and smell the flowers. To relish in the experience. To sink-in to the journey. To allow the road, your soul purpose, to become part of the way you walk and talk. You’re not in any rush – where is the fun in that? You’d rather savor every moment, every lesson along the way. That way you really learn them- maybe even the first time around! Strong foundations are important to you. You want your knowledge and experience to have a backbone. Something to stand on that speaks all for itself.

girl-throwing-fall-leaves-appreciate-the-journeyYou’ve learned some warning signs – who and who not to trust. You have become a better judge of character (by getting to know yourself), but not judgmental – you just know who you would like to invite into your energy and who you’d rather keep at a bit of a distance. You know to pick your battles wisely. To not feed into another’s negative behavior. To not get wrapped up in other people’s drama – remember, not my circus, not my monkeys. You understand the insanely crazy value of setting boundaries and how it is a benefit to not only you, but also to others in your life as well.

You’re getting better at that little thing called Self-Talk. You’ve been working on healing thoughts of a comparing nature. You understand that the grass really isn’t always greener on the other side, but you are too busy focusing on pulling your own weeds, sowing seeds, and spreading fertilizer to notice your neighbor’s lawn.  You’ve become better at freeing yourself from self-oppressing thoughts, self-sabotage, and lower vibrational patterns of behavior. You truly know the worth of thinking positively and the power of your own manifestation abilities!

You have a ton of excitement and hope for the future! You can over come anything and you know that now! You see all of the remnants of past challenges behind you – in a cloud of smoke, lying in the dust. You tore threw them like a hurricane (even though it may not have felt that way in the moment).  You are more sure of where you want to go, what you’re looking for, and have a better idea of how to get it. You know where to look for opportunities. Understand the value and deep worth of self-expression. You’re better able to determine when and when not to take action. You’re more daring and ready for new adventures!

What have you learned on your journey of awakening thus far? What lessons are you currently grappling with? I’d love to hear your insights!
